Since NintendoGal.com was undergoing some renovations last week, here’s a late roundup of all the SmashBros.com updates from that week. Starting today, all of NintendoGal’s SmashBros.com updates will occur on Friday.
2/4/08: Port Town Aero Dive
The new F-Zero course takes itself from F-Zero GX for the Gamecube. As with Mute City from Melee, a platform travels along the course, stopping in various locations to let players do battle on the terrain of the course. Unlike Mute City, however, Port Town Aero Dive has some much more treacherous ground. On occasion, the platform will leave the course altogether, providing you with choice views of the whole area.
2/5/08: Final Destination
The totally flat final stage returns for Brawl. There’s not much to say about a single flat platform, beside that you’ll fight Master Hand there, so this update instead provided a series of screenshots to show off the ever-changing background of this stage.
2/6/08: Assist Trophies
This update provided information on some of the other Assist Trophies in the game. Pictured above is Metroid, from Metroid, who latches onto an opponent and slowly increases its damage. Also seen was Tingle (The Legend of Zelda), who causes random effects; Kat and Ana (WarioWare, Inc.), who attack a single opponent with their twin swords; Jeff (EarthBound), who fires guided bottle rockets at enemies; Helirin (Kuru Kuru Kururin), who becomes part of the terrain with its rotating blades; Jill and Drill Dozer (Drill Dozer), who dashes up to enemies while drilling; Nintendog (Nintendogs), who jumps up to the camera and obscures the battle; Lakitu (Super Mario Bros.), a 2D sprite who throws Spinies; and Hammer Bro (Super Mario Bros.), who throws hammers in large arcs.
2/8/08: Zero Suit Samus’s Final Smash
When Zero Suit Samus (or Zamus, as she is known by some) grabs a Smash Ball, this allows her to use her Final Smash, entitled Power Suit Samus; she spins in an energy ball, then regains her armor and becomes Samus again. This may not seem like much, but if enemies are nearby, they’ll be sucked in, and then blown away in a manner akin to Jigglypuff’s Rest move. The update also explained how to become Zamus without a Smash Ball: you can hold R at the character selection screen as you go to the stage select screen, or you can rapidly tap your up, down, up taunts in that order, though you’ll have to do it fast.
The other two updates last week were spoiler updates, which are posted next; if you don’t want to be spoiled, stop reading here.
I used to think Zamus’s Final Smash was pretty useless, until I saw one particular clip of it in action; it KO’d three people at once. Also, Port Town Aero Dive looks fantastic.
