Nintendo formally announced today that it would be hosting three panels at the Game Developer’s Conference ’08, an annual event for game developers to share development techniques and philosophies. GDC ’08 will be at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, and Nintendo’s presentations will occur in Room 135.
The first presentation will be from Takao Sawano, the producer for the team that designed the Wii Balance Board for Wii Fit. He will discuss the development of Wii Fit’s controller, as well as "how Wii Fit...is already turning family living rooms into private fitness clubs". This panel will take place Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 4pm.
The second panel, which will occur on Friday, Feb. 22 at 9am, is being presented by Takashi Aoyama, the Network Administration Group’s manager at Nintendo. He’ll be discussing the hardware programming for the Wii console, including elements such as the Wii’s various channels. A more significant subject will be the development and introduction of WiiWare, and the various hurdles involved.
Finally, Masahiro Sakurai will hold a third panel regarding Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He intends to discuss how to go about "advancing the legacy of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl franchise", involving such elements as taking the series to the Wii and the balance of various Nintendo characters and universes. This will also happen on Friday, at 10:30am.
I’d love to go to a GDC one of these days. I’ve always had an interest in how these games are made, and I’d love to see such a presentation regarding Brawl especially.
