Nintendo 64: Cruis’n USA, 1,000 Wii Points
The first game in the Cruis’n series is also the first third-party N64 title to appear on the Virtual Console. This racing game lets you choose from one of seven cars to race on one of fourteen tracks based on locations from around the United States; come in first place and you’ll move on to the next track. The game also offers five difficulty levels, two-player competition, and the ability to race with only the road and no obstacles.
Master System: Wonder Boy, 500 Wii Points
This old-school platformer for the Virtual Console has you playing as Tom-Tom, a caveman-esque fellow who is adventuring to rescue his girlfriend Tanya. As you move through the nine world, with four levels each, you’ll throw hammers at enemies, plow through them on your skateboard, or just run right through them when the fairy makes you invincible. If you collect all the Tanya dolls, you’ll unlock hidden levels. If you’ve already downloaded Adventure Island for the NES, keep in mind that this game is exactly the same, only with different characters.
500 points seems like a reasonable price for Master System games, though I still think that Nintendo could lower prices by a dollar or two and still make tons of money. I wonder how many consoles we’ll end up seeing, as older companies try to get cash out of their old games?
