The Dojo will stop updating on Monday, April 14th, and as we approach the last of the information the site has to offer, it must be noted that every update this week is a spoilers update.
3/31/08: Wolf
Fox’s rival, Wolf O’Donnell, is one of the last characters you’ll unlock; nab him by playig 450 Brawls, completing Boss Battles with Fox or Falco, or going through the secret door in the Ruins after completing the Subspace Emissary. Wolf is not quite as fast as Fox, but is a fair bit stronger and packs quite a punch. His special moves are essentially the same as Fox’s, with a few differences. First, his Blaster has a small claw on the end of it, which can stun close opponents before Wolf blasts them with a large, slow laser attack. Instead of a Fox Illusion, he has a Wolf Flash, where he jumps upward at an angle, delivering a meteor smash at the end of the attack; his Reflector is a bit wider than Fox’s, as well, and can act as a counter if done with the proper timing. Wolf too has a Landmaster, which is more powerful and maneuverable, but doesn’t last as long.
4/1/08: Pirate Ship
Toon Link’s home stage is Tetra’s Pirate Ship, which sails the sea with the King of Red Lions sometimes tagging behind. This stage undergoes several environmental changes, including getting beached on a rock, caught up in a tornado, and fired at by cannons. Additionally, watch out for the catapult hidden in the bow of the ship. Unlock Toon Link to gain this stage.
4/2/08: All-Star
All-Star mode returns for Brawl, and is unlocked once you obtain all 35 characters. This mode has you battling against every character in the game, with only three chances to heal your damage completely between battles. Instead of the random order from the last game, this All-Star mode groups characters together by series, and presents the battles in the order of when these series premiered. You’ll face off against Mr. Game & Watch first, and Olimar last. Sakurai points out that between the last two fights (Pokémon and Pikmin) there’s a roughly six-year gap, and notes the difficulty of coming up with new character-driven game series.
4/3/08: Full Song List
While an earlier update posted the list of initially available songs, this list has all the unlockable songs included. If I counted properly, this list contains a whopping 268 songs; some stages have more than ten songs apiece. You can use this list to figure out how many more CDs you need to find.
4/4/08: Final Smash Trophies
In Melee, if you cleared All-Star mode, you’d get a trophy of a character performing a special move; in Brawl, you’ll get a trophy of a character performing a Final Smash. Since Zelda/Sheik and Samus/Zero Suit Samus have separate Final Smash trophies, that makes 37 of these to collect in all. These trophies are portrayed more like scenes taken from the game, and have a slightly higher visual quality than the other trophies.
Man, that is an absolute ton of music. On another note, Wolf is one of my favorite characters to play as; he’s powerful, but still relatively fast.
