At its media summit today, Nintendo announced a new Mario-themed baseball game, Mario Super Sluggers. Like Mario Kart Wii, Mario Super Sluggers intends to use the unique capabilities of the Wii Remote, using motion control for swinging, pitching, and other actions, with "the same intuitive, easy-to-learn controls that helped make Wii Sports a living room hit." Few other details were offered by the press release; the game is scheduled to ship later this year.

I certainly hope it improves on the Wii Baseball controls in some way; perhaps more pitch control, or things like that. Apparently we’re fielding this time around, if reports from the summit are any indication.
